: and newark, new jersey, mayor is talking up the challenge to live on a food stamp budget for week, starting today, kicking it off with $27.98 grocery bill. he says it is all about raising awareness but my guest says this stunt isn't helping anyone. explain. >>guest: no, it is not helping anyone. people look at the mayor of newark and say if he is on food stamps maybe i should get on food stamps what he should do is get people off of food stamps and on to jobs. the unemployment rate in new jersey is about 9.5 percent. he is tweeting and having fun with this it and i looked at grocery receipt and he bought espresso with food stamp money, i don't think that is spending the right message. you don't have a job? don't look for one, get on food stamps. that is the message it sends. it is the wrong one with one in seven americans on food stamps. >>neil: i know what is going on here, i respect the mayor and all of that but he probably wants to challenge the present governor, later on. i wonder, though, whether whether he becomes governor or not whether he is making a statement about food stamps that

helpful or a pointless exercise? cory booker, the hero mayor of newark, the guy who runs into a burning building to save lives, invites superstorm sandy victims into his home and rushes to aid a pedestrian hit by a car. heroism so out of the norm, it's been lampooned by booker himself and new jersey governor chris christie. >> gov, sit tight. i got this. >> booker. >> governor, stand back! i got this. i got this. >> booker! >> now booker says he will honor a challenge he made to one of his million plus twitter followers to live on food stamps for a week to see how the other half lives. although it's fair to ask, as mayor of newark, doesn't he already know? the s.n.a.p. challenge, as booker calls it, means eating on just $4.32 a day. he he says he's doing to, quote, raise awareness and understanding of food insecurity, reduce the stigma of s.n.a.p. participation, and amplify compassion for individuals and communities in need of assistance. he was told by a constituent that nutrition is not a responsibility of the government. he seems to be itching to prove her wrong. he could run against

of the year. the mayor of newark, new jersey is about to go on a strict diet. starting today, cory booker will live on food stamps for a week - that means spending only $4 a day for all of his food. booker accepted the challenge in a twitter debate with a north carolina woman. other public officials have tried this before booker and have reported it to be a great challenge. there's no place like home for the holidays, and keeping up with its annual tradtion, fannie mae and freddie mac won't evict familes facing foreclosure during the holiday season. this year's freddie/fannie evicition-free dates are dec. 19 through january 2nd. you might think airlines wouldn't be able to find ways to add more fees to your ticket, but that's exactly what was talked about at the airline information conference that just wrapped up in san diego. airlines are reportedly looking at ways to use past passenger preferences as a way to customize add-ons for future travel. airlines collected $36.1 billion in extra fees this year. still to come, how you may be able to get your house back, even if it's already in f

. the newark star ledger in new jersey reporting that governor chris christie is going to ask the federal government to reimburse the state for 100% of the cost of rebuilding from superstorm sandy. christie heads to washington on thursday to meet with federal officials. you know, parts of the new jersey coastline, complete devastated by this powerful storm. you know, governor christie estimates that sandy caused upwards of $20 billion of damages. >>> and the atlanta journal-constitution with more information about dozens of children and adults that were sickened by carbon monoxide poisoning at the local school there. at least 49 people were sent to the hospital yesterday. take a look at this. fire officials believe the heating system failed there. finch elementary had no carbon monoxide detectors, either. which, i guess, they're not required in georgia. and many parents complained they were left in the lurch because of poor communication. soledad o'brien will talk to a student, a parent and also a school official. so we'll get lots of sides there. >> also coming up, amazement and dismay.
